It seems like yesterday, but it has been three years since I assumed the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Urology (CJU). It has been a challenging, but thoroughly enjoyable experience, a responsibility that I carried out to the best of my abilities. My work was made easier by an outstanding editorial board, a cadre of Canadian, North American, and international experts who have freely given their time and knowledge to guide the journal to new heights. These efforts culminated in obtaining indexation in Thomson Reuter ’s Journal Citation Reports, which will rank the journal’s impact factor, starting next year. We expanded the readership and contributors to gain international recognition, published important supplements, and started new initiatives such as dedicated sections for Minimally Invasive Surgery, Clinical Trials, and the highly acclaimed Legends in Urology. None of this could have been possible without the unrelenting support and hard work of the dedicated publishers, George and Lena Georgieff.
It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you now that I am stepping down as Editor-in-Chief of the CJU. I have accepted a position as Medical Director of a major pharmaceutical company, which necessitates leaving the position of Editor-in-Chief in order to avoid any potential conflict of interest.
At the same time, I am delighted to announce that Dr. Leonard G. Gomella, the Bernard W. Godwin, Jr. Professor of Prostate Cancer and Chairman of Urology at Jefferson Medical College, will assume the Editor-in-Chief position at the CJU. Dr. Gomella has served as an Associate Editor for the past three years. More importantly, he brings to this task a vast amount of experience in medical publishing, including authoring numerous books and involvement with many journal leadership positions. Dr. Gomella has contributed extensively in the field of urology in basic and clinical research, and is recognized as an outstanding clinician. He will continue to be assisted by an outstanding team of current and new associate, national, and international editors. I am confident that he will fulfill his new role with energetic enthusiasm, integrity, and skill. Please join me in ushering in this new era of the CJU and in wishing Dr. Gomella the very best. His continued success will benefit us all, especially our esteemed readers.
With best wishes for a bright future,
